The Blind Square activity had moments of success and failures. Although the entire class was able to come to a solution, the process took too long and it had many unproductive moments. While I was one of the experienced individuals, I felt like my contributions were being limited because of the lack of coordination and few people listening. I’m sure that the new people also felt very lost and limited. There were too many people trying to give directions. It was hard for the class to listen to several people speaking at the same time. Eventually, the class was split into two groups which was very frustrating and discouraging. I knew that it was going to be impossible to finish the activity with such a division.
Fortunately, the class came together again and was able to finish the activity with the clear and strong directions from one person. While I am proud that I didn’t give up on the activity like many others did, I wish I could have contributed more. I wish I could have spoke up about the need of coordination. Also, I could have motivated those around me that appeared frustrated and unwilling to go on with the activity. I’m confident that with coordination and higher motivation among participants, the process would have been smoother.
The lack of leadership was the biggest problem. I think that this was caused by not letting experienced students speak at the beginning.
